How to Stop Overthinking Before You Run Mad

“Why worry when you can chop jollof and sleep this Saturday?”

Happy Saturday, my people!
See ehn, today is not for tension, today is not for headache, today is for relaxation. But some of you, instead of resting, you’re there calculating how your life will turn out in the next 25 years, plus the price of rice in 2050.

Overthinking is like carrying heavy load on your head while still dragging wheelbarrow with your hand. You’ll just collapse. And Nigerians? We are world-class overthinkers!

“What if fuel price goes up again?” (as if you can stop it).
“What if NEPA takes light in the middle of Champions League final?” (you’ll still shout “Up NEPA!” when they bring it back).
“What if jollof rice finishes before it gets to my turn at the party?” (better position yourself near the cooler).

See? That’s how wahala starts.

see as this Naija jollof rice set and you no gree chop, na overthinking you dy do. my guy just bring your spoon come make we chop, everything go set soon. forget all your worries abeg.

  1. Catch Yourself in the Act
The first step is awareness. Anytime you catch yourself planning your 10th wedding anniversary when you’ve not even found boyfriend/girlfriend, pause and breathe.
  2. Write It Down
Sometimes your head is full because you’ve turned it into hard disk. Carry journal, write the thoughts out. That’s why I even created the 7-Day Stress Relief Journal, to help you download the overthinking from your brain to paper.

  1. Laugh It Off
Half of the things we overthink about never even happen. Instead of thinking, find one comedy skit, gist with a friend, or read this blog again. Laughter is medicine.
  2. Take Action
Some thoughts just need action. If you’re overthinking money, start saving small. If you’re overthinking relationship, ask the person where you stand. Don’t use imagination to wound yourself.
  3. Remember It’s Saturday
Please abeg, today is not the day for hypertension. Today is Saturday! Rest, eat good food, dance small, gist plenty, and let life breathe. Overthinking is like using fork to drink soup, very stressful and unproductive. Free yourself. Live today. Tomorrow will sort itself. And if the thoughts still plenty? Don’t worry, your 7-Day Stress Relief Journal is waiting for you.  https://selar.com/tjd3155135
