Falling is inevitable, but rising is a choice.
Life has an interesting sense of humor. Sometimes it gives us victories so sweet we feel unstoppable. Then out of nowhere, it throws a punch that leaves us flat on the ground.
It could be a heartbreak that feels like the end of the world, a job loss that makes you question your worth, or even something as simple as tripping in public while holding hot jollof rice (don’t ask me how I know ). The truth is: being knocked down is part of being human.
But here’s the good news, being down doesn’t mean you’re out.
The Ground is Not a Grave
When life knocks us down, our first instinct is often shame: “Why me?” But falling doesn’t mean you’re finished. The ground is not where your story ends, it’s where lessons begin. Some of the greatest comebacks in history were born from the lowest falls.
Falling Teaches Humility
Let’s be honest, nothing humbles you faster than being knocked off your feet. Life has a way of reminding us of that we’re not invincible, and that’s not a bad thing. Humility makes us teachable. It keeps us grounded.
Resilience is Built in the Getting Up
Strength isn’t measured by how many times you never fall; it’s measured by how many times you rise after falling. Think about it: every stumble is building unseen muscles of courage and resilience.
When a baby is learning to walk, they fall a hundred times. But not once do they think, “Walking is not for me.” They simply get up, wobble forward, and try again. If a baby doesn’t quit, why should you?
It’s Okay to Rest, But Don’t Unpack
Sometimes when life hits hard, you need to lie there for a bit. Cry. Breathe. Even eat suya while you rethink your life choices. But don’t unpack and build a house on the ground. Don’t confuse a season of rest with a lifetime of giving up.
Every Knock is Preparing You
Life’s “knockdowns” are like training sessions. They shape you, toughen you, and prepare you for battles ahead. The setback you’re facing now could be the very thing equipping you for the victory you’ve been praying for.
Falling is inevitable, but rising is a choice. Life may knock you down, but your comeback can be stronger than your setback.
This Monday, instead of focusing on how hard life has hit you, ask yourself: What is this fall teaching me? Then share one lesson you’ve learned from a past setback in the comments, you might inspire someone else to rise again.
